What size area do I need for a swing set?
Each swing set design has a different space requirement. See the design specifications for exact requirements.
What kind of lumber should I use to construct my swing set?
Use any type of lumber recommended for outdoor projects such as decks, playground equipment or water front projects. NOTE: If using pressure-treated wood, see the Consumer Safety Information Sheet near the pressure-treated lumber for more information.
What kind of surface should I have under and around my swing set?
Soft surfaces, laid after installation, are ideal under your swing set. Never place your swing set over hard surfaces like blacktop, concrete or packed earth where injury could result in the event of a fall. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends the following loose fill surfacing materials: wood mulch (9" depth), double shredded bark mulch (9" depth), uniform wood chips (12" depth), fine sand (12" depth) and fine gravel (12" depth).
